1. Nature of the business SMTC Corporation (the “Company”) is a worldwide provider of advanced electronics manufacturing services to original equipment manufacturers. The Company services its customers through manufacturing and technology centers located in the United States, Mexico and China. The Company ceased production at the Canadian facility at the end of the second quarter of 2013. All facilities provide a full suite of integrated manufacturing services including assembly, testing, box build, final product integration, and expanded supply chain capabilities. In addition, the Company operates an international sourcing and procurement office in Hong Kong. The Company’s financial reporting year is a 52 or 53 week fiscal period, ending on the Sunday nearest December 31. Accordingly, the consolidated statements of operations and comprehensive income, the consolidated statements of changes in shareholders’ equity, and consolidated statements of cash flows are reported for the periods from December 31, 2012 to December 29, 2013 (“period ended December 29, 2013”), January 2, 2012 to December 30, 2012 (“period ended December 30, 2012”), and January 3, 2011 to January 1, 2012 (“period ended January 1, 2012”). Certain comparative figures have been restated to conform with the current year’s presentation. |
