MC Assembly Donates More Than $31,000 to Local Kids Without Christmas Charity
MC Assembly, a leading mid-tier electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, recently donated more than $31,000 to Kids Without Christmas, a Melbourne-based charity that helps provide underprivileged children with holiday cheer.
This year’s donation brought the company’s charitable donations to more than $230,000 over the last eight years. MC Assembly officials said they were first drawn to Kids Without Christmas because of the charity’s focus on providing families with gifts, food and clothing during the holiday season.
“It’s an organization that’s easy to support because of all the good it does in the community,” said George Moore, CEO of MC Assembly. “But beyond that, we’re impressed with just how efficient Kids Without Christmas is, with 99 percent of its donations going back into the community. You don’t see that every day.”
Kids Without Christmas is the brainchild of Mike Kelly, who coincidentally runs the cafeteria service for MC Assembly. Kelly said his charity fills a basic need for the community.
“We run out of money before we run out of kids,” Kelly said. “There’s a tremendous need in this community and MC Assembly’s support helps fill that need.”
MC Assembly’s contribution each year is due in large part to an annual golf tournament the company holds at Duran Golf Club. Close to 200 golfers and volunteers turn out for the annual outing, held each March.
“It’s a chance for us to gather our employees, partners and friends together for a day of great golf on a beautiful course,” Moore said.
The full-field scramble tournament counted Kevin Oser of Merrill Lynch, Will Glass of BB&T Insurance Services, Keith Naylor of Lincoln Financial Group and Brian Kingston, director of human resources for MC Assembly as its winning team this year. Moore said everyone is more focused on keeping score of donations rather than just golf scores, however.
“First place, last place, birdie or bogey, it doesn’t really matter to us,” Moore said. “The real winners of our tournament are the children of Melbourne.”
